Matthew 6:19-21

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Recently (October 4th to be exact), I had the opportunity to go to an MLS soccer game In Columbus, OH with my wife Becky, Jaden, Jason Buckley, Ashley George, Caleb George, Steven Cumberlege and David Hourani.  The two teams playing were LA Galaxy and the Columbus Crew.  DAVID BECKHAM was playing, who happens to be the highest paid MLS soccer player in the history of the league.  Want to know how much me makes?

Over the next 5 years he will make $260,135,723.58 (over $260 million).  That may be kind of hard to grasp, so let me break it down for you.  This means that every month, David Beckham is raking in $4,334,923.84 (over $4 million).  Every week (EVERY WEEK) he is receiving $1,083,174.66 (over $1 million).  Need more help breaking that down to day to day income?  EVERY DAY David Beckham is getting $154,736.12!  What about every hour? … $6,446.15!  Every minute? … just a bit over $100 ($105.68).  Can you imagine every single minute of your life receiving a $100 dollar bill?  Go to youth group on Wednesday night from 7-8:30 and you’ve got $9,000.  Go to school from 8:15am-3:15pm and you’ve got $42,000!  You go to bed at 11pm and wake up at 7am and you’ve got another $48,000 … just for sleeping!!!  It just keeps rolling in - minute after minute.

But I am reminded of Matthew 6:19-21.  “Don’t lay up for yourself treasure on this earth where moth and rust will corrupt it and where thieves can break through and steal, but lay up for yourself treasure in heaven, where neither moth or rust can corrupt it and where thieves cannot break through and steal.  For where your treasure is there will your heart be also”.

Oh, how I pray that I will not fix my heart on treasure that will soon corrupt and burn.

Chicago Marathon (a year has gone by)

As I looked at these pictures today I was reminded how quickly a year can go by… the first thought that always hits me when I see a picture from a year ago or so is this:

Just like “that” a year has gone by and if I am like the average man I will only have about 75 of those “thats” … maybe more … but maybe less.

It is then that I remind myself to make each day count for eternity!
